Free Crochet Slothstronaut & Rocket Amigurumi Pattern
Cosmo the Slothstronaut & His Carrot Rocket: A Free Amigurumi Pattern!
Grab your hook and blast off with the slowest, cuddliest astronaut in the galaxy and his trusty veggie-powered spaceship.
Introduction
It all started in my garden. I was looking at a row of bright orange carrots, their green tops sticking out of the soil, and I thought, 'They look like little rockets ready to launch.' Then my mind drifted to sloths, my favorite sleepy creatures, and a silly question popped into my head: what if a sloth wanted to go to space? And that's how Cosmo the Slothstronaut was born! He's a dreamer who moves at his own pace, proving that even the slowest among us can reach for the stars. This project is pure joy, a little bit quirky, and a whole lot of fun to make. It reminds me of the silly fun I had making my Pikachu Pal Amigurumi pattern. I just know you're going to love bringing this little space explorer to life.

Gathering Your Mission Supplies
Before we blast off, let's gather our supplies! I find that having everything in a little basket next to me makes the whole process so much smoother. For Cosmo, I used some worsted weight yarn I had in my stash—you know the kind, soft and perfect for cuddling. The orange for the rocket needs to be vibrant and full of energy, and a soft, gentle brown for our sloth pilot is just perfect. Don't worry if your colors aren't an exact match; every Slothstronaut is unique!
A Few Notes Before Liftoff
This pattern is worked in continuous rounds, so a stitch marker is your best friend here! I like to use a scrap piece of contrasting yarn. Place it at the beginning of each round to keep your count straight. Also, when it comes to stuffing, remember that firm is good, but overstuffed can stretch your stitches. We want Cosmo to be huggable, not tough! The final size is about 20cm, but that can change a bit depending on your yarn and tension.

Assembly Instructions

- Sew the head to the body. Use pins to hold it in place first to make sure it's centered.
- Attach the arms to the sides of the body, just below the neck seam.
- Sew the legs to the bottom of the body, positioning them so the sloth can sit nicely.
- For the helmet, fold the open edge up slightly to create a rim. Place it on the sloth's head and sew it in place, leaving the front open for his cute face to peek through. I like to give it a little tilt for extra personality!
- Attach the three fins evenly around the base of the carrot rocket. The process is a bit like attaching the pieces for my Toothless dragon pattern, so check that out if you need a visual!
- Bundle the three carrot leaves together and sew them firmly to the top of the carrot rocket (the narrow end).
- Finally, place your sloth on his rocket! You can either leave them separate or add a few stitches to secure him in place for his journey.
- Using beige yarn, embroider a little nose and mouth on the sloth's face.
Pro Tips from the Designer

- Invisible Decrease: To make your decreases less noticeable, use the invisible decrease method (working in the front loops only). It creates a much cleaner look for amigurumi!
- Don't Be Afraid to Customize: Want a purple rocket? Go for it! A rainbow-striped sloth? Amazing! This is your project, so have fun and make it your own.
- The Magic of a Stitch Marker: I know I mentioned it before, but seriously, don't skip it. Losing your place is so frustrating, and this one tiny step saves a world of trouble. It's the secret to perfect spirals!
- Perfect for Gifting: This little guy makes an incredible gift for space lovers and dreamers. Pair him with another adorable creation like Puddles the Tiny Duck for an extra special present.
