Luxo Jr. Amigurumi: Free Crochet Pattern for Pixar Lamp
Light Up Your Life: A Free Crochet Pattern for Your Own Luxo Jr. Lamp
A Free Intermediate Amigurumi Pattern for the Iconic Animated Lamp
I still remember the first time I saw it. That little animated desk lamp, so full of personality and playful energy, hopping across the screen. It was pure magic. For years, I've had a lamp on my own desk, and I always secretly wished it would spring to life. So, I did the next best thing: I picked up my hook and some sunny yellow yarn. This project was born from that little spark of nostalgia. It’s more than just a toy; it’s a little creative companion that sits on my desk and reminds me that magic can be found anywhere, even in a simple ball of yarn. I hope making him brings as much joy to your craft space as he has to mine.

A Few Words Before We Begin
Before you dive in, take a moment. This pattern is rated as intermediate, mainly because of the assembly and the use of wire to give our little lamp its classic poseable charm. Don't let that scare you! Just take your time with each piece. The key is tight, consistent stitches to make sure no stuffing peeks through. Think of it like building a little sculpture, one stitch at a time. If you’ve ever tried bringing beloved characters to life with yarn before, like with my Pikachu-pal amigurumi pattern, you'll know the incredible feeling of seeing a personality emerge from your hands.
Gathering Your Materials
For this project, I chose a classic worsted weight cotton yarn. It gives the lamp a sturdy, matte finish that feels wonderfully handcrafted. The yellow needs to be bright and cheerful, the steel blue accent is for that iconic base detail, and just a touch of black for the cord. The craft wire is our secret ingredient – it’s what gives him life! You can use pipe cleaners in a pinch, but a sturdy craft wire will hold poses much better. Having all your materials ready feels like setting up a canvas, doesn't it? It’s the quiet, hopeful start of a new creation.

Assembly
- Begin by stuffing the Lampshade firmly.
- Attach one Hinge piece to the back of the Lampshade.
- Attach the other Hinge piece to the top of the Base.
- Now for the structure: Carefully cut a piece of craft wire slightly longer than the Connector Arm. Gently fold the ends of the wire to prevent sharp points.
- Insert the wire through the Connector Arm. This can be a bit fiddly, just go slow!
- Sew one end of the Connector Arm to the Hinge on the Lampshade.
- Sew the other end of the Connector Arm to the Hinge on the Base.
- For the final touch, cut a short length of black yarn for the 'cord.' Attach it to the back of the lampshade and let it hang down near the base, securing it with a small stitch.
- Gently bend the arm into Luxo Jr.'s classic curious pose.

Pro Tips
- Stuffing is key! For the lampshade and base, stuff them really well to get a firm, defined shape. For the arm, keep the stuffing a little lighter so it remains flexible around the wire.
- When you insert the wire, try to push it through the center of the fiberfill. This padding will prevent the wire from distorting the stitches over time.
- If you find this project a bit tricky and want something a little simpler to start with, the round shapes of my Rosso the Beginner Tomato pattern are a great way to practice your skills!
