Pip the Acorn Amigurumi: Free Crochet Pattern for Beginners
Crochet My Little Autumn Friend: Free Pip the Acorn Amigurumi Pattern
A quick and adorable beginner project to bring a little piece of the forest into your home.
The other day, I was walking through the park, and the air just had that crisp feeling, you know? The first real hint of autumn. I saw a handful of perfect little acorns scattered under a huge oak tree, and I just knew I had to capture that cozy, wonderful feeling in yarn. So, I hurried home, grabbed my hook, and this little guy, Pip, was born! He’s the perfect pocket-sized friend, a tiny reminder of golden afternoons and crunchy leaves. He works up so fast, you’ll have a whole family of them before you know it. He’s much simpler than some of my other little friends, like the sweet Puddles the Tiny Duck, making him perfect for a relaxing afternoon project.

Finding the Perfect Autumn Palette
For Pip, I wanted colors that felt like they were scooped right out of the woods. I chose a deep, chocolatey brown for his cap—it reminds me of the rich soil after a light rain. For his body, a soft, creamy beige felt just right, like the inside of a real acorn. The real fun, though, was his little hat! I went with a vibrant lime green, like the last bit of summer hanging on. You could use any bright, happy color you have in your stash—a pumpkin orange or a sunny yellow would be absolutely adorable!
What You'll Need to Bring Pip to Life
You don't need much to create this little guy, which is what I love about him! Just raid your yarn basket for some worsted weight scraps. Here's my list:
- Worsted weight yarn in Brown, Beige, and a fun color for the hat.
- A 3.0mm crochet hook (or whatever size gives you a nice, tight fabric so the stuffing doesn't peek through!).
- Some soft fiberfill for stuffing.
- A yarn needle for weaving in ends and sewing.
- A pair of scissors.
- Optional: A little bit of black embroidery thread if you want to give him a sleepy little face.

A Few Friendly Notes
This pattern is super beginner-friendly! If you know how to do a single crochet, an increase, and a decrease, you're all set. We'll be working in continuous rounds, so a stitch marker will be your best friend to keep track of where you are. Don't worry about getting the gauge perfect; just aim for tight stitches. My Pip ended up being about 9cm tall, the perfect size to sit on a desk or bookshelf. If you've just made my Rosso the Beginner Tomato, you'll find this just as fun and easy!

Assembly
- First, take the acorn cap and place it on top of the body. It should fit nice and snug! Use that long tail you left on the cap to sew it onto the body. I like to go through the back loops of the last round of the body to make it neat.
- Make sure the body is stuffed well before you completely close the gap between the body and cap. You want Pip to be nice and plump!
- Now for his cute little hat! Position it at a jaunty angle on top of his cap and use the yarn tail to sew it securely in place.
- If you want to add a face, use a strand of black embroidery thread to make two simple closed eyes. I find it gives him a sweet, peaceful look.
- And that's it! You've made your very own Pip. Isn't he just the cutest little thing? He'd look adorable sitting next to a tiny Pikachu Pal on a shelf!
Pro Tips
- Use the invisible decrease method for a much cleaner look on your acorn body. It really helps make the decreases disappear!
- Don't be afraid to play with colors! A sparkly yarn for the hat could be magical, or you could even make a rainbow-striped acorn body.
- To make a little hanging loop, simply chain 15-20 stitches from the tip of the cap before fastening off. He'd make a perfect ornament for a Christmas tree or a cute keychain.
- A tiny dab of blush or pink pastel chalk on his 'cheeks' can add an extra touch of sweetness.
